Key People

Key People

There are three main categories of Key People outside of beneficiaries that you may have as part of your estate planning:

  1. Executor(s)
  2. Guardian(s)
  3. Trustee(s)

It is important to review your Key People for your wills and any trusts you may have. Many people forget or never get around to updating this important information when a life event occurs. A typical life event where you may want to change a Key Person could be, but not limited to:

  • Death
  • Divorce
  • Estrangement
  • A change of heart
  • Mental Health
  • The person moves
  • Change in fiancial situation

The Key People listed in your estate planning documents are extraordinarly important to your Family Life Planning. If you need to change a Key Person in a document, you should visit with a Plan attorney to review your changes so updates can be made correctly to your estate planning documents, or new documents can be prepared.

Homework

Review with your spouse your key people listed in your estate planning documents. Discuss if they still meet the needs you require of them, and if not, discuss possible new candidates. If you recently prepared your estate planning documents, congratulations, you don't need to discuss this section this go around.
